Furry Friday #004: Terrorist cat

suicide bomber-cat

I do not know who took this picture but a friend of mine sent this through email. Apparently the owner of this photo took great lengths in putting together the cat's suicide-bomber/terrorist costume. Is this funny or what?

Wordless Wednesday #35: Eeek - a mouse!

furry friend mouse

One evening, just as we were preparing to bed, I heard the kids screaming in the living room. Apparently, my son Joshua and his cousin Beebop saw a mouse running away from the kitchen sink and they tailed the poor mouse up to the living room. My son asked me to take its photo before it could run away. Perhaps the mouse was curious of its "discoverers" that it stayed put in one place.

Furry Friday #002: Kanding (Goats)

kanding

These goats are some of the animals being raised inside the demo-farm which I mentioned in the other Furry Friday post last week. Here farmer-beneficiaries are taught to adopt and adapt sustainable farming systems/technologies that guarantee an increase in productivity. Goats are distributed for them to raise - and they give back to the demo-farm the same number of goats given to them. Goats are raised for food - either sell it in the market or use for their own consumption. The goat poop or manure is collected and used in the demo-farm as fertilizers. There are 6 demo-farms in five selected provinces of Capiz, namely: Sigma, Cuartero, Panit-an, Dao and Jamindan. All of these receives support from our organization, the Katibyugan Foundation.

Furry Friday #001: Ducky-ducks

This is my first time to join Furry Friday and my entry is, er, not that furry but they are feathery!

ducks

These ducks are raised in one of our demo-farms in the province of Capiz. Ducks are raised for food (eggs and meat) and their wastes are collected and used as organic fertilizers for rice and vegetable farmers. Demo-farms like this is one of our ways of reaching out marginals farmers in the remotest towns of Capiz and to show them how new farming and animal-raising techniques can help increase their productivity. A number of poultry and livestock animals are also found in the demo farms, and, apart from ducks, it includes chickens, cows, pigs, buffaloes, goats. A farm technician assists the farmers.

In one aspect of our project, we give a pair of poultry or livestock animals to our farmer-beneficiaries (who are victims of the recent Typhoon Frank) as a start-up and with the use of recommended techniques, make it grow. Once they have successfully raised the animals, they will pay back the organization the same number of animals given to them.
